CIS Tax Returns

While you work under CIS you will be required to submit Tax Returns to HMRC annually. HMRC issue the forms on the 6th April each year, you then have until the 31st October to submit a paper Tax Return to HMRC and 31st January to submit the Tax Return electronically, in both cases any tax due must be paid no later than the 31st January.

CIS Tax Return Deadlines and Penalties

Dont leave submitting your Tax Return to HMRC to the last minute as you will face hefty penalties. For being 1 day late a £100 penalty is imposed, should the return still be outstanding after the end of April daily £10 penalties are charged for 90 days or until the return is submitted whichever is sooner. After the 31st July a £300 penalty or 5%  of any tax due is applied and should the Tax Return still not be submitted by 31st December a further £300 or 5% of the tax is imposed.
